Tooth enamel and dentin are highly mineralized hard tissues, with hydroxyapatite as their primary inorganic component.

These tightly organized hydroxyapatite crystals give teeth their strength, stability, and resistance to acidic challenges.

Demineralization: Loss of Hydroxyapatite

When the oral environment becomes acidic over time, hydroxyapatite in tooth enamel begins to dissolve and is gradually lost.

This process, known as demineralization, is the starting point of early enamel damage and tooth vulnerability.

Why Replenishing Minerals Helps (But Has Limits)

Supplying calcium- and phosphate-based minerals can support the remineralization process and help address early-stage demineralization.

However, providing minerals alone does not automatically rebuild the highly ordered microstructure of natural enamel.

What to choose? Micro-HA or Nano-HA?

The main difference lies in particle size, which can influence texture, formulation style, and how the ingredient interacts with the tooth surface. Rather than viewing one as “better”, we see them as different approaches to everyday oral care.
